Messaging clients

Project conversations with your clients — in the project, not lost in an inbox.

Business plan and above

Messages gives each project a conversation channel between you and the client's portal users — so decisions, questions and "quick ones" live with the project instead of scattering across email threads.

How conversations work

Your Messages hub shows every conversation across projects; the client sees theirs inside the portal. Two shapes:

  • Direct messages — one-to-one within an organisation.
  • Group conversations — you (the operator) can create groups that bring the right people into one thread. Only you can create cross-organisation groups, and clients can never see or message another client's organisation — each client's world is sealed.

@mentions pull a specific person's attention, and mentions surface in notifications so they're hard to miss.

What belongs where

A rule of thumb that keeps everyone sane:

  • Messages — anything about the work: questions, decisions, files-in-passing, "can you look at this?"
  • Status updates — the formal periodic report.
  • Support tickets — problems with Ambital itself, not the work.

The support dialog even says so: work questions reach you faster in Messages than in a support ticket.

Notifications

New messages and mentions notify the recipient in-app, and by email according to each person's own notification preferences. Clients don't need to keep the portal open to know you've replied.

Note: messaging is part of the Business plan and above, alongside the client portal itself. See Inviting a client to the portal.
