Project templates
Save the shape of a project and start the next one from it — phases, sections, tasks, milestones and the invoice schedule.
If you run the same kind of work more than once — an audit, a discovery sprint, a campaign, a monthly board pack — you shouldn't have to rebuild the project each time. A project template keeps the shape and leaves out the client.
What a template keeps
- The purpose (what the project is for), the billing model and how the client signs off
- Which tabs are switched on
- Phases, in order, with how many days after the start each begins and how long it runs
- Sections and the tasks in them, with estimated hours and when each is due (as days after the start)
- Milestones, and which phase each sits in
- The invoice schedule, as percentages of the project value — a 30% deposit, 70% on delivery, and so on
It never keeps assignees, actual dates, statuses, comments, files, time entries, invoices or anything about the client.
Save a project as a template
- Open the project and go to Settings → Tabs.
- Under Reuse this project's shape, click Save as template.
- Give it a name and, if you like, a line on when to use it.
The template appears under Business → Project templates, where you can edit it.
Start a project from a template
- Projects → New Project → Client project.
- At the top of the "What's this project for?" step, pick one of your templates under Start from a template.
- The sign-off and phases steps are pre-filled from the template. Rename, reorder, remove or add phases as usual — a phase that keeps its name keeps its sections and tasks.
- Fill in the client, dates and value. Task and milestone dates are worked out from the start date; invoice amounts from the project value.
You can also click Use on any template in Business → Project templates, which opens the wizard on it.
Built-in templates
Every kind of work in the wizard — delivery project, marketing campaign, audit, packaged service and the rest — is also a built-in template with its suggested phases and tabs. Copy one to add your own sections, tasks and invoice schedule, then save it as yours.
Editing a template
Business → Project templates lists yours and the built-ins. Edit changes the template for future projects only; projects already started from it don't change. Archive hides a template without deleting it; Delete removes it, and again leaves existing projects untouched.
Project templates are included from the Business plan.
Where this fits
Part of how Ambital runs delivery projects, audits and assessments and packaged services. Each page shows how the project is set up, what it looks like, and the integrations that fit.
